Welcome to spqrome
If you've ever come across T. Robert S. Broughton's Magistrates of the Roman Republic and wished it were easier to navigate, you're in the right place. Each link below leads to a specific year and its magistrates. For now, the dataset focuses mainly on the late Republic and includes the magistrates of the cursus honorum (i.e. quaestor, aedile, praetor, and consul) as well as the tribunes of the plebs.
| Reviewed magistrates | Consuls | Praetors | Aediles | Quaestors | Tribunes of the Plebs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 919 | 175 | 336 | 73 | 149 | 186 |
| Consuls | 175 |
|---|---|
| Praetors | 336 |
| Aediles | 73 |
| Quaestors | 149 |
| Tribunes of the Plebs | 186 |
| Total magistrates | 919 |
Every year "pill" below is clickable and will take you to the given year. Its coloured sections show the offices present (see legend), and the total height of the fill reflects how “busy” the year was, i.e. how many magistrates it had compared with the year with the highest count (which is filled completely).
You can toggle the colours in the legend to remove or add offices from the year pills.
