Aedile
Broughton: @Brougthon: On his aedileship, see (a). It was rejected by Münzer (RE 13.2.2082), but accepted by Sumner (b). A date ca. 84 is based on a calculation from the date of his consulship. Consul 78 and Censor 65. See (c). Refer also to Plut. Cat. Min. 16.4-6 on the dispute between the younger Cato as quaestor and Catulus before he abdicated his censorship.

Broughton: Lepidus quarreled with his colleague, attempted to prevent giving funeral honors to Sulla, and, proposing a program to restore the powers of the tribunate, to carry new grain laws, and restore the confiscated lands to their former owners, began an insurrection, while Catulus became the leader of the opposing forces (a). Catulus also received charge of the restoration of the temple of Jupiter on the Capitolium (b).
