Tribune of the plebs in 67 BCE

🏛️ Career

  1. Tribune of the Plebs

Broughton: Cornelius first proposed a bill to forbid loans to foreign states, but failed to carry it (a; see below, on Gabinius). His second proposal, to make the people the sole source of exemption from the laws, was vetoed amid disorders, but he carried a compromise proposal requiring a quorum of 200 senators (b). Third, he carried a law to compel Praetors to follow their own edicta perpetua (c). And among other bills which failed of passage (d) was a bribery law which at least compelled the acceptance of the milder Lex Calpurnia (see above, Consuls).
