    Lentulus as Consul-elect and Consul gave general support to the optimate position against Clodius and the so-called First Triumvirate (a), and opposed the use of an army to restore the king of Egypt to his throne (b). He [Lentulus] opposed the candidacy of Pompey and Crassus for the consulships of 55 (c).
